If you paid 100% your phone already, the provider tin release the unlock code for free, if not, you must buy one.

FYI, I did non utilize a non-accepted sim menu, just become into sim card menu and go to the option, unlock through code (or similar)

I thought at that place was a constabulary that got approved recently to forbid us from buying unlock code from a third party. Its sole purpose is to prevent att version of iPhone iv to be used on tmobile network. Just that police affects all mobile phones. maybe someone tin can verify.

First, y'all no longer need to insert an "alien" SIM. Just entering the unlock code will work.
2nd, some providers will give you lot the unlock code free if you are a "long time" customer.
Third, the law against unlocking the phone can only be enforced by your carrier. It is unlikely in the extreme they volition do this.

In the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland at that place is merely ane place I would purchase a phone. Carphone Warehouse phones are all unlocked and unbranded out of the box ,contract, payasgo or simfree. Same carrier contracts unlocked phone. It's a no brainer.

Wow... laissez passer the bong. When AT&T kickoff had the iPhone exclusively, Apple did everything they could to proceed the iPhone locked to AT&T considering Apple tree was getting a piece of the carrier'due south fee. So if you unlocked it, when an update came through to the phone, Apple relocked it to AT&T. In that location is still pending an anti-trust lawsuit against Apple tree for this practice. But there was no law, simply greed.

The new "police force" issued past the US Library of Congress says you cannot unlock a carrier's jail cell phone without their permission. This is about digitally protected/copyrighted material and cell phones got covered and truth is... no i cares virtually it. A carrier would have to take a client to court for unlocking a telephone. That is never going to happen. "Yeah, sign upward with AT&T and we'll put you in jail!" Great ad campaign.
